As I stood at the overlook, watching day give way to night, the landscape felt both calm and alive. Clouds rolled overhead, softening the sky and adding to the drama of the scene. The distant mountains faded into a peaceful gradient of color and depth. The Blue Ridge is known for its moody and impossibly beautiful sunsets. Even though this one didn't materialize exactly as I'd hoped, it was definitely moody.

I caught this scene as the sun dipped behind the mountains, the ridges fell into layers of cool blue shadow and the last rays of the evening sun caught the autumn canopy just long enough to set it aglow—rich oranges and deep reds burning against the quiet, blue-toned ridge lines.
