There’s something different about sunrise when you’ve already been awake through the darkness.
 
After spending the night photographing the stars, we headed back out in the early morning, hoping there might be one more photograph waiting for us.
 
From the Foothills Parkway near Townsend, Tennessee, the first light of day began to rise over Happy Valley. A brilliant orange sky stretched above layer after layer of mountain ridges, while the valley below remained quiet in the lingering shadows of night.
 
Happy Valley Sunrise captures that brief transition between darkness and day—the moment when the sun first breaks the horizon and the landscape slowly begins to reveal itself.
 
It is a photograph about more than sunrise. It is about being there, waiting, and witnessing the reward of one more early morning in the mountains.
